The Morabaraba players on East Driefontein Gold Mine are already ready for the 2008 season.

After a fiercely fought hostel championships, all the top hostel players played off for the Hostel Championships on Sunday 9 March 2008.

Of course all the big names were there such as Diporo Babutsi, Seabelo Phanankane, Nkosinathi Nhlabatsi, Motshegetse Ramashabela and Garebabone Kepaletswe, but it was the arrival of new blood that made the championship pulse with energy.

Right from the word go, Mfamipela Motsa challenged the ‘Old Guard’. Motsa demolished his first two opponents to then find himself drawn against none other than Diporo Babutsi. The game attracted a huge amount of interest as the newcomer challenged the veteran player. However, such was Motsa’s skill that he managed draw against Babutsi.

While the draw ended Motsa’s charge, it nonetheless confirmed Babutsi as the East Driefontein Gold Mine Morabaraba champion.

Babutsi shall be leading the East Driefontein Gold Mine Morabaraba team in the 2008 African Bank Miner’s Championships.

There is little doubt that a development plan that benefits all the parties involved is a development plan that is bound to succeed.

With the basic underlying belief that all parties involved must benefit from any development plan, Mind Sports South Africa teamed up with RAMLODI OUTDOOR ADVERTISING. Together the Germiston based Mind Sports South Africa and RAMLODI have put together an exciting and dynamic programme where everyone wins.

The programme consists of erecting open air game stands at schools. The game stands are sponsored by a third party. The school receives a monthly payment while the game stand is sponsored, and MSSA gets the games played in an ever increasing number of schools.

Thus the programme has now begun its official rollout. The Tshwane University of Technology has sponsored a number of game stands that are being distributed to schools.

The roll-out of game stands began at Pretoria West High where a delighted Headmistress Rita Coetzee took delivery of the first two stands.

As soon as the stands were positioned in the quad, learners descended en masse to the game stands and began to play. Only when the bell ran signifying the end of break did the learners leave the stands.

Steven Kekana of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) was also delighted with the response of the learners to the game stands.

The game of Morabaraba is well known to have a strong linear mathematical background and has previously been used by Tshwane University of Technology to identify learners who have strong mathematical skills.

Additional stands will be set up at schools in Benoni, Johannesburg, Witbank, Nelspruit, Attridgeville, and Mamelodi within the month.

For further details on the development programme, please contact the writer.

For information on the game stands, please contact Leon de Beer at Tel.: 012 333 8197, or Fax.: 086 620 0749, or e-mail: ramlodi@nol.co.za. You can also visit the RAMLODI website at: http://www.ramlodi.co.za/
